  1. Download the Phomemo app from the app store. It’s free. You DO NOT need to pay for it to download it or to keep using it. The extra features are not required to print a good tattoo stencil. Press “Print images” . X out of the pop-ups. It’s not required to print a tattoo stencil.

  1. Select “free edit” and then I usually prep the image in advance so it’s easy to find by taking a screenshot of it—this way I don’t have to wait for my entire camera roll to load and scroll through thousands of photos.

  1. ALWAYS REMEMBER to mirror your design before printing it. You have to print the stencil mirrored so that when you lay it on skin, it will be correct. If you forget—the design will be backwards and look wrong. In the bottom right of the screen where my finger is pointing, Phomemo conveniently has a “mirror image” button. Press that.

  3. Take your Phomemo brand thermal tattoo stencil paper and flip it face down. Now, look at my left hand. I am holding the paper down at the top with my left index finger and pulling and tearing away the rest of the back sheet with my right hand, leaving a small strip of backing paper at the top. Throw it away.

  4. Flip the Stencil Paper back over on the front side up. Hold the top of the paper again while sliding out the protective sheet inbetween the purple page and the top page. Throw it away.

  1. Now your stencil paper is ready. Make sure the top is latched down and then slide the paper in carefully to keep it straight and push with a tiny bit of force, then the Stencil Printer machine should automatically sense and grab the page and advance it a little bit. If you cannot see it sticking out a little bit of the back, then sometimes I will press those “push” buttons to pop the lid so I can slide the paper forward a little bit so I can just barely see it sticking out. This helps prevent jams when I have a really dense or complex design to print.

  2. Carefully let the stencil print the page. You can hold your hand on it as it is printing, just make sure not to actually pull on the page or you will stretch and warp the design. LOOK AT THIS amazing stencil!!

  1. Lastly, a note on how to apply a stencil properly. Always wipe the skin with soapy water first. Then 70% isopropyl alcohol for 3min. Then shave. Then 70% isopropyl again for 3min. Then apply Stencil Prep spray. Make sure it’s moist but not too wet and not too dry. Then lay the stencil and try to let the paper touch to the skin for at least 60 seconds, and then let the stencil air dry for 10min before starting. Sometimes, if the stencil is dark enough and I’ve waited a good 15min, I will quickly and lightly wipe with alcohol one time to remove excess stencil and to shrink the skin. ALCHOHOL SHRINKS SKIN. Stencil Prep swells the skin. When you use alcohol the skin shrinks, then the stencil prep takes that purple ink and absorbs it into the skin—this is how it stays. So, don’t skip shaving or using alcohol!
